Physics Toolbox Magnetometer 2021.08.08

This magnetic field sensor application offers users the capability to measure and visualize a graph representing Magnetic Field (µT) versus Time (s) in the x, y, and/or z dimensions, along with the total magnitude. It allows for further customization through accessing settings to display data with a digital read-out.

The app provides features to record and export the total magnitude magnetic field strength via email or Google Drive as a .csv attachment using either comma or semicolon as a delimiter. Users can adjust settings to plot data against elapsed time or clock time, change the plot line thickness, or alter the data collection rate. Additionally, upon initial start-up, users are presented with a brief tutorial on how to utilize the app effectively.

The magnetic field sensor supports various educational applications such as measuring the earth's background magnetic field or checking for permanent magnets or electromagnetic fields. In classroom settings, it proves useful for experiments related to determining the inverse-square law for a "point source" magnet, evaluating the strength of a field produced by a solenoid, or measuring the frequency of objects exhibiting magnetic variations like audio speakers or magnetic plate stirrers.

Permissions Explained:

• android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: This permission allows the app to create and modify a csv file on the phone's internal memory.
